lanterns

our last full day in beijing was jam packed! got breakfast at a mall nearby. had a delicious cake pop for starbucks, which i totally thought was china unique, but turns out, i haven't been to starbucks in awhile. but it was super cute and delicious! headed out to tiananmen square. took lots of fun pictures with mao's portrait, including jumping ones! met up with z & k's friend lawrence aka larry! the lanterns in this picture were all over the streets, decorating the restaurants & showing off to attract customers. we ended up eating hot pot, which was super delicious! hot pot is basically adding meat/whatever you want into a hot pot of broth. after lunch, we went to the beijing art district 798. it was pretty cool seeing chinese contemporary because i had never seen any. tons of awesome sculptures & cute shops :) we took a bit of a siesta & met with larry for dinner. we tried to look for a peking duck place so s could have it in the homeland. after walking around, it was getting late & we ended up going to a small muslim owned family place right near our hostel. our waiter was absolutely adorable & the food was spicy, but yummy :D great way to end two eventful days in the capital!
