First of the season

Today was the opening day of the trout fishing season on the river Wye.
What you see is a rainbow trout top and a brown trout below.
They were caught on the Haddon stretch in Rowsley on a double badger dry fly.
The trout fishing on the river Wye is some of the best dry fly fishing to be found anywhere in England and at considerably less cost than the chalkstreams such as the Test and itchen in the south of England.
A few years ago Haddon estates decided to stop stocking the river and just have catch and release. Since then the quality of the fish and the fishing has improved dramatically.
If the opening day is anything to go by we are in for another fantastic season.
What makes the river so unique is that as far I know it is the only river where rainbow trout breed naturally.
