Fyne hills

A very mixed day today.
Our grandsons are here for the weekend and the older of the two had spent most of last night helping his friend set up a coffee morning fundraiser for his Voluntary Overseas visit to Africa.

So this morning we went along to that , and with both grandsons and John and I buying lots of raffle tickets and tombola tickets we came home with a vast booty of prizes including a bottle of the finest brandy ( my favourite tipple ) lots of cider, beer and wine , not to mention the usual smelly stuff and chocolates!!! Off course their friend managed to raise £1300 which is quite amazing given the size of our small village ( it has a school with 26 pupils - that should give you an idea of our village )

The afternoon was a more sober , yet uplifting time as we went to a memorial service for an old friend , the whole village was there as well as many familly and friends from far and near. The eulogy was so beautifully presented by a family member and we all came home with our spirits lifted by the memories of our friend and the beautiful and moving poem read by her friend.

This evening the sun was going down over the Cowal hills above Newton across Loch Fyne and I thought the beauty of the scene at the end of the day was a fitting tribute to our old friend with that touch of blue sky like a ray of hope for the rest of us.
