Tortoise unveiling

We trooped off to a friends house today for the ceremonial unwrapping of the hibernated tortoise. Its been happening for a few years now, and we record the before and after weights on the box. This year it lost about 15g over winter. Well initially it lost about 1kg, but then we found the scales weren't level. They are kitchen scales with a tortoise weighing adapter gadget (upturned box).

The owners have no idea how old the tortoise is - except they've had it for a large number of years, and it only has one working eye.
We tried to tempt it with cucumber, but it declined. The dog on the other hand decided it liked cucumber and had considerable.

We feel tortoise encounters are a valuable part of guide dog puppy training...
