Naomi and the Lion (Alfriston, East Sussex)

Backblip:

Here we go, had a nice long and relaxed weekend in East Sussex this weekend so no blipping until today (04/04/11).

Here's the first - I booked our Stay at The Star, Alfriston in February just because I got a good deal and wanted to surprise Naomi with a nice weekend away in a village she loves. Unfortunately I couldn't keep the fact we were going away a surprise because we were invited to a her Dad's birthday party in Brighton on the 02nd but I managed to keep the location secret until we arrived.

We had a great day of shopping and walking, then a meal at The Star (which wasn't great but I won't go on about that). Before the meal however, Naomi wanted a picture with this lion figurehead which is stood outside The Star. Here's what The Star's website says about him:

At the front of the building stands a lion figurehead, thought to be from a Dutch warship, which sank in the English Channel. It is believed that the lion was washed ashore in Cuckmere Haven and then brought into Alfriston by a gang of well-known local smugglers. The figurehead was restored in 2003 by the local rector and re-positioned on the opposite corner of the hotel for its own protection!
