Not the bee's knees

I've come to the conclusion that these are flies rather than bees. Their eyes look like fly eyes and the have that ugly Y shaped bit on the front of their heads like a fly does. And their abdomen looks flyish too.
They look superficially like bees until you start to look closer.
Bloody good fliers though.
