Lifes Rich Tapestry

The Dali at Kelvingrove

I love this picture. Always have always will. It has always fascinated me since I first saw it as a child and it still does. It was 3D without the glasses, it was the cross suspended in time, space and definately in another dimention.

The story behind it is just as inspiring. The meeting of two visionaries, one was the creator Dali. The other was Dr Tom Honeyman, the man who bought this gem for Glasgow.

It cost £8,200 in 1952. This was the entire art budget for the year. It caused protests from Glaswegians and even more surprising from art students. It was thought to be a waste of money. Austerity was key and rationing was still king. The painting today is priceless.

Enjoy!
