Hide Away Folk Family

Laced with irony

Round to friends for supper this evening. They live in a lovely loft-like apartment in an old brick Victorian building - exposed beams, views over chimneys - which I thought might make for a nice blip.

The room by the hallway is where coats and bags get put. And for some reason shoes had been left closely gathered together on the floor. So we added our own.

Before heading up the stairs to their first floor rooms, I was struck by the shoes huddled together and liked the image and snapped it.

I then prowled the rooms looking for a nice pic before settling down for a drink. Yes there were some lovely ones. Shots over the roof tops, an old pulley still in place, the modern plaster and the old brickwork. But nothing quite right.

Except for the shoes. Jumbled together, each pair representing the different people in the flat, mixing happily without a care.

Too nice a metaphor and too nice an image to pass up.

So I had my blip from the start.

The title "laced with irony" has little to do with the image but it comes from the They Might be Giants song Hide Away Folk Family and it's the only reference to shoes in one of their songs which I know.
