Fred inspects the ingredients for tonight's supper: wild garlic pesto and St George's mushrooms.

The wild garlic (or ramsons) was picked down the green lane five minutes away and mashed up with olive oil, crushed pine nuts and parmesan; the fungi were growing in the garden and only needed frying lightly with butter and parsley. Together they made a perfect accompaniment for a simple dish of spaghetti.

(The answer to Fred's inquiry was Yes! He likes anything oily and is fond of mushrooms too.)
