New Wellies - a cautionary tale!

A few months ago I realised my old blue wellies, which were ever so comfortable, neoprene lined and very warm had no tread at all left on the soles of them. They were lethal on the ice and packed snow so reluctantly I gave them to Himself, who used them to make rubber seals out of for use in the shed and on the boat etc! Talk about waste not, want not and recycling! They were more than three years old and like old friends and as they'd been dog walking boots they'd seen plenty of miles!

I found similar ones on t'interweb but they were fiendishly expensive so decided to buy fairly basic ones instead. Of course by the time post and packing had been added they weren't that much of a basic price, but they looked serviceable and did the job.

At the weekend, after guddling about in the hole which will one day be our pond, digging out clay, I was sploshing in the sea washing the clay and mud off them and realised that my heels, and then whole feet, were soaking! The heels had worn through, only a thin layer of rubber covers the join between boot and heel and you can see the fabric!

So, on Monday, when we were in town for building supplies, I bought these! Oh, joy! So comfortable, nice and narrow and fit like a glove sock! And they have hens on! And no post and packing! And not that horrendously expensive compared to the use they will get! No more false economies - life is too short!
