Postman

A lot of things are delivered by bike in Tokyo. Pizzas are delivered on special three wheeled bikes, ramen are delivered on bikes with special stabilizers to stop the soup from spilling, and as you can see in the photo, the post is also delivered by bike.

Traditionally, Japanese companies do all their hiring at the beginning of April. This is an especially miserable time of year on the trains because there are thousands of new company employees crowding the trains with expressions of total bewilderment. You can spot them by their matching black suits and matching jet-black haircuts.

Put these two things together and you get today's blip. The rider in the photo is supposed to be part of a training class for new postal employees. It looks like the plan was to form an orderly convoy, but the lead rider, who was a bit too big for his bike, had burned off up the street. Our lad in the shot was put-putting along with a look of concentration that didn't match his speed, and at a t-junction at the other end of the street was three more riders bumping into each other like dodgems while trying to navigate themselves out of the three-way traffic jam they had caused. I hope they get the hang of it soon or else we won't get any post!
