Geraniums

We take our geranium cuttings indoors every year, and refill the outdoor pots in Spring. But this year we got our timing wrong and they are flowering like mad in the conservatory. I do enjoy the scent of the leaves though, every time I brush past them.

Appropriately, the geranium symbolises folly.

On a more positive note, geranium makes a wonderful essential oil, and is great for the skin. A few drops in the bathwater leaves both the skin and the senses feeling revived.

Observe yon sweet geranium flower.
How straight upon its stalk it stands,
And tempts our violating hands,
Whilst the soft bud, as yet outspread,
Hangs down its pale declining head.
Yet soon as it is ripe to blow,
the stems shall rise, the head shall glow.

Richard Brinsley Sheridan 1751-1815, ['School for Scandal']
