Co-creation

Another exciting day at work today, in the continuing run up to our big meetings. Yesterday's cut-outs were replaced by flesh and blood people, in an exhibit called "Apps for Development."

And what is that, you might ask? (or not...) A year ago, we made all the data we produce (and we've got reams of them) publicly available for governments, researchers, students and the common Joe to do with what they please. We also decided that it would be cool to see what happened if we launched a call to the younger set to create 'apps' based on that data. Today, the 30 best apps were on display, with their creators at the ready to explain what they are. Here is a link for more info.

Most of the innovators were in their early 20s and from all over the world (the pair featured in the picture are French and Irish -- a good combo, I can attest, based on my marriage to an Irish guy, well of Irish descent...). Most of these folks had never had an opportunity quite like this and they were wide-eyed, shy and full of trepidation. They were also a delight to chat with: their energy and enthusiasm much refreshing! I think it was the experience of a lifetime for them; and perhaps some fame to come as well, as we deploy the products they created.

I feel really good about today!
