Old Toll Bar

Although this is a familiar pub sign in Edinburgh I took advantage of the view from the top of a bus which happened to stop in just the right place so snapped it through the window.

Whether the man is paying his toll or buying the cask of ale the coin he is offering looks pretty substantial. The trainers have hung from his arm for so long that they have almost become an accepted part of the sign.
