A Sasanach's Skye photos

By Sasanach

Rob & Loraine's piece of paradise.

Sometimes The Isle of Skye is perceived as being desolate. Yet some people come here for that very reason. They recognise that Skye has a unique climate because it is influenced by the Gulf Stream.

One such couple were Richard and Ursula Townsend who bought this croft because it had a stream flowing through it. They soon set about creating a garden that is quite exquisite. They spent many years here before sadly Richard was taken ill. At that point they sold up to be nearer their family.

The property was bought by a Doctor and his wife who regretably did not maintain the garden. So when Rob & Loraine bought the property it was quite overgrown and neglected.

Imediately they set about restoring the garden to its former glory and by jove they have done a splendid job. Today the garden was opened for the day to the public in aid of charity. Clare, I and many other garden lovers made a pilgrimage to Peinchorran at the end of the Braes road to admire and enjoy this oasis.

I do not think my photograph does it justice, you will have to take my word for the fact that it is a truly lovely garden. The blessing was that the day was dry though a little breezy. Another couple of weeks will see more rhododendrons in flower. I wonder if I shall be allowed another wee peek then.
