Young Woman and Baby

A quiet day of sightseeing today. We visited the Amber Fort and Jantar Mahar, the Jaipur observatory, and home of the world's largest sundial. Both were equally breathtaking.

This lady was among the visitors to the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of the Winds. This palace is five storeys high, but just one room thick, and was designed to allow the Purdahed women of the Maharajah's court to watch state processions on the street below without themselves being seen.

The current Maharajah of Jaipur died last night, so the flag on the City Palace was flying at half mast and the town preparing for his funeral.
