Sunday Afternoon

We had a fabulous time with F in Mainz last night. I can wholeheartedly recommend Cafe Portugal (the one in Heidelbergerfassgasse not the one near the station). It was very busy, very lively and the food was very good - you have to take pity on the one woman serving though - she never stopped for the whole time we were there. Poor lamb.

We took the 11 o clock train home and it was very civilised.

We're going back later in the week for F's birthday party. Hands up everyone who knew that this Thursday was called Green Thursday or Gründonnerstag? A quick look at my encyclopaedia tells me it's the same as Maundy Thursday - and is part of the Easter weekend. I never understood the concept of movable feasts - it smacks of hedging ones bets a little.

In other news, today has been a day of trying to learn more German and failing miserably for ages with the Dative case for nouns. I just couldn't grasp how the feminine article, die, changes to the masculine, der, And then, thanks to some very patient help I can.

That took ages though.
