Lady's smock

Lady's smock cardamine pratensis is a really pretty flower when you look at it closely. For some reason my old favourite flower book (Wild Flowers of Britain and Europe by Fitter, Fitter and Blamey), which I was given ages ago, calls it cuckoo flower but everyone else refers to it by this name.

Here's another plant with a mysterious name: lousewort.

Many of our migrant birds seem to have returned already, and are singing their hearts out, like this blackcap.
