Anne's Daily Encounters

New Skyline

This district was built in the early fifties in answer to the large need of family houses and the houses then built are small appartment buildings, then housing families with children, now we wonder how they could live in these small flats. And these flats are still housing couples, mostly the elderly or the  young. Many of these over-50 years old stock buildings are being demolished and replaced by new buildings with spacier apartments, that ofcourse are also more expensive in rent or purchase.
And this building with the line of a ship's prow is one of the new skyliners here in The Hague. Surely this one is regarded as a Prow as a little further on in the district a new towering apartment building is named Pharos (= Lighthouse) - funny to see how creativity is realised in concrete and naming
