Thistle Down

By Ethel

Emptiness

I looked in my sack,
And what did I see?
Emptiness was there,
Just looking at me.

No caramels did I see,
No, not a one.
To eat them all,
Someone had done.

They were given to me,
My resistance was low.
And how they went so quickly,
I really don't know.

One by one they vanished,
And soon I was aware.
That to search a little harder,
I wouldn't even dare.

But the sack was empty,
And this was sure.
That it would remain exactly,
Until someone brought some more.
