I tried to be quiet...

... but like yesterday my version of quiet is obviously still too loud for the little people. Though there is perhaps one in the background here, trying to hide behind some of those dead leaves.

Unsatisfied with yesterday's photos, I went back to take some more. There was mention that some of you hadn't seen one the colour of yesterday's so here is proof of what they start out like.

When they first come up they are bright red and white balls. As they open they become paler and paler until they are the plate sized orange thing like yesterday's blip.

The Matakitaki valley where these were taken has a lot of beech trees, but these guys seem to grow closer to where there is the odd pine tree, although they do seem to have come up in the mulch from beech leaves.
