Northern Flicker

I saw this bird for the first time in my life the other day on Blip in someone else's journal, can't remember whose.

Looked out the office window today and there he was, sitting in the grass!

He was pulling up dry stuff to use for nesting, I think. You can see he is holding a little sprig.

This is the second variety of woodpecker I have been lucky enough to capture this spring, I love the bright red patches on them!
