Back and Forth thru time

Place in the Country

Evening all,

The ageing hippy in me is bubbling close to the surface this evening. I have finally finished sawing one of two (hundred it feels like) conifers that need to make some room in the garden.

It always makes me a bit sad when i chop a tree down, then after the exhalation of making out alive, i stop, have a count of the rings and feel slightly ashamed that i've just taken my axe and saw to something that is older than my daughter.

Mind you, they never come down easily, you follow the code, make the prescribed cuts, drive in wedges, make the final cut, confident in the knowledge that it will fall exactly in the spot you've prepared and have seen in your mind's eye, and wait, as it creaks, wobbles, and with an ominous snap and a malevolent gust of wind it decides if its going down, its taking you with it......

i've noticed at times like this, any other instruction other than "RUN" is totally ignored, and actually even "run" is often a fairly pointless comment as well, still you have to say something don't you!!

So i now have another huge pile of firewood, various cuts and scrapes, aching muscles and a sore head where a bow gave me a not so gentle goodbye kiss.....

still only one more left to do, hippy.......retreat!!
