Maumbury Rings

Just at the end of my road is an ancient neolithic henge dating from about 2,500 B.C. It was turned into an amphitheatre by the Romans and was reshaped into an artillery fort in the English Civil War.

After that it was the site of the town gallows and this was where the Duke of Monmouth's rebels were executed after being sentenced by Judge Jeffreys.

Today it serves as an excellent amphitheatre for open air concerts and plays, and for events such as this.

My attempt to blip yesterday failed, so I've uploaded it again today
