Vienna Day 2. Underground moment

We'd been told when we checked in yesterday that we'd find basic provisions either in the market across the road or in a supermarket just up the road. We did manage to get milk and cheese, but the supermarket turned out to contain eastern European food stuffs which we couldn't identify, so there's no way we were going to be making a gourmet meal. We did track down a shop that sold beer and vodka, though, which we knew we'd need to have in the apartment to entertain our friends from Budapest.

They arrived by train at 2.00 pm, which gave us enough time to stroll around Volkspark and the magnificent buildings around there before we met them (the blip shows Carl exiting at the Volkstheater stop). A beer beside the station, a quick return home to drop off their bag, a quick welcoming drink, and then it was time to meet up with our two travelling companions from home, whose plane got in this morning. We'd been so impressed with the Naschmarkt yesterday that we arranged to meet them there again. We had a nice Chinese/oriental meal and then the pub-crawl madness began.

Carl and I were alone in one of the pubs at one stage and found ourselves unable to pay the full bill, which meant an ATM search for Carl while I remained on as hostage. Our Budapesters rejoined us later, we had a few late-night drinks and then got a taxi back to the apartment for more social interaction and reminiscing and catching up and so on. A great day, but rather a tiring one.
