Walk the plank!

Hythe Pier - walk on the left -or take the train on the right along the 640 metres pier to the ferry at the end!
I did take a photo of the train (the world's oldest pier train) but preferred this view. Many of the planks along the pier are engraved with dedications so we walked two thirds of the pier before we found the one we had dedicated to a dear friend we lost a few years ago.
Construction of the pier began in 1879 and opened on 1st January 1881.
George VI, the admiral of the fleet and many World War II heroes departed from this pier on D-Day in June 1944.
