Managed to grab this on the train and keep my theme alive for another couple of days at least. Thanks to theno, middleman and neville for your suggestions - they may appear at some point.

Came across Ulrich Schnauss on the recommendation of a friendly record store man, whilst I was buying some M83, who said "If you like Loveless then you need to buy Ulrich Schnauss". Any mention of MBV will always reel me in and you know what he wasn't far off the mark.

This is a better shot but I couldn't think of how to link it to my theme, no matter how tenuous.
