Sing a rainbow

Artfully displayed rainbow flags on the merchandise stall at ShakeUp - the event held this evening at Norwich Arts Centre to officially start the countdown to Norwich Pride 2011 that's happening on 30 July.

Our choir, Sing with Pride, were the first act on and we began by singing just two lines, several times over, from a song which I think I've mentioned in a previous blip entry:

We who believe in freedom cannot rest
We who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes.

Rather than simply being at the front of the auditorium and starting singing, the 15 or so of us were scattered throughout the auditorium (it wasn't big!) and weaved our way in and out of the audience to make our way to where we would sing for the remainder of our set. Two members of the choir carried rainbow flags as they walked, which made for an amazing atmosphere.

We then launched into a rousing rendition of 'Only You' (done by Yazoo and the Flying Pickets several years ago) and finished with a song called 'Grandma Said', which is a 'coming out story' that was set to music for our choir to sing.

We went down a storm, and it was a brilliant evening with loads of arty stuff, comedy and more music going on. And will probably continue into the wee small hours for those that have the stamina.

I'd been asked if I wanted to be one of the several 'roving photographers' and of course I said yes. Unfortunately, I guess I was a bit over-excited about performing and didn't actually take too many pics in the end.

Can't wait for our next performance!
