Guinea Pig Zero

"Penn Christmas"

When the students are packing out and getting ready to leave the University of Pennsylvania, true believers in dumpster-diving make their annual pilgrimage to the trash heaps to collect what should not be wasted. It's a lot of stuff. These three are not impoverished or homeless. It's a principle that's at stake. They fill bags and boxes with whatever they want, then leave what they don't want, but can be used, on the edges of the containers for others to take. I know the fellow in the hat, but neither of us know the handsome young couple at left. A few puzzled students asked "What are you looking for?" --and got brief, calm answers like "Useful things."

Sub-capitalism. Love in the garbage. That's West Philly for you.

I wanted to blip a cat picture for today's challenge, but none of the many I captured was as unusual or as interesting to me as this. Plenty of cats to come, you can rest assured.
