Too old to die young

Chapel in the Centovalli

We took the train to Locarno today via the Centovalli, the "hundreds of valleys" railway. It was quite overcast when we came out of the Simplon Tunnel but it cleared up during the course of the day. This is a very different region from the ones we have seen this week. Beautiful valleys and wooded mountains and of course Lago Maggiore. Mostly broadleaf trees, hardly any conifers but those that are there are lovely feathery, spring green larches. Lots of edible chestnuts, figs and introduced dogwoods at their very best right now in full flower. This was our last evening together. Home tomorrow via Geneva and Paris. It has been good but I'm glad to go home and look forward to sleeping in my own bed for a few nights.
