(Indegenous) People Watching

Our last day in San Cristobal was spent wandering around the markets, exploring the slightly shocking outskirts of town (people living in what are essentially wooden huts on gravel roads) and people watching in the main square.

I'm a big fan of people watching, and San Cristobal's central plaza was one of the best spots ever. Mexicans, travellers, street performers and indeginous people mingled side-by-side in front of a beautiful yellow church and under a giant wooden cross.

Many of the local people spend the entire day here trying to sell hand-made crafts and fabrics. Often it's entire families (though there's never a male in sight).
It's hard seeing very young children hauling huge scarves and blankets around all day - and above is a rare smile from a girl I spent half the day trying to secretly snap from afar.
