King Robert the Bruce

Sorry this isn't the best picture but this was unveiled yesterday outside the Marischal College in Aberdeen, soon to be the home of Aberdeen City Council, and I expected easy access.... not for it to behind fences. I literally squeezed my phone through to get a half decent shot!

The monument, created by sculptor Alan Herriot, depicts the Scottish hero on horseback, clutching the charter which he granted in 1319 to give Aberdeen feudal rights over the Forest of Stocket, granting the city fathers the rights to one of his favourite hunting grounds.

The £120,000 statue was funded by the city's Common Good Fund which was developed as a direct result of the charter.
