Persoal History

Todays blip ia photo of the Indenture Papers of Apprenticeship of my Father .
He commenced his apprenticeship as a Machinist on the 20 th November 1928 in the shipbuilding company of Harland & Wolff, at that time the largest shipbuilding company in the world. His commencing salary was the princly sum of 10 shillings a week.
The Indenture papers have only been discovered recently and are quite worn and torn in places but I have had it framed and hangs proudly in place honour in my lounge.
Coincidently my father was born in 1911 the year in which the "Titanic" sank and of course the Titanic was built at Harland and Wolff.
This year is the 100 th Anniversery of the sinking and one of the big sellers during the year has been a white tee shirt with a large picture of the Titanic on the front and in black capitals on the back "It was alright when it left here"!
A little bit of Irish humour
