Everything Is Going To Be Alright

The children playing tig around the landscaped sculpture garden at the Edinburgh Modern Art Gallery. There's a huge banner on the front just now reading "Everything Is Going To Be Alright".

We took advantage of our all-day bus tickets by buzzing from the station to the Filmhouse for Rango, then from the Filmhouse to Stockbridge, and later from the Gallery back to Princes Street.

We didn't actually go into the MAG, we went into the Dean Gallery across the road instead to see the August Sander exhibition. That was really selfish of me because Jeff Koons is on the MAG and the kids would have loved that tat, I'll take them next time. The Sander exhib is great, what an archive. Beautiful light, composition, detail and bags of character. Wow. "Bricklayer" is amazing, but "Pastry Chef" had me for a while. The "Political Prisoner" series are striking, then you read that it's his son and that his son died in prison through lack of medical attention. He'd be on blip for sure.

I was completely kicking myself when we were on the bus from the Filmhouse and saw that local superstar Danny Macaskill was practising in the square (if you've not seen that video, I urge you to click the link. Amazing and beautiful, when he flips off the castle.. Ah.). I snapped a couple of shots as we drove past, but nothing to keep. Talk about "makes it look easy". Like a bird makes flying look easy.

By the way, Top Tip if you're visiting our capital city (we do this every visit): Go to the bus office on Waverley Bridge, by the train station. There you can buy all-day tickets for about £3 per adult, £2 per child and you can use plastic to pay, and pick up the city bus map for free. (You can get those tickets on the buses but you need exact change). Beats the "Edinburgh tour" buses at £26 for a family ticket.

More nice photos of the children on Flickr.
