Can a bird be more intelligent than an ape?

A delightful eve spent at Madingley, on a tour of the ancient and new woodlands, the latter planted to celebrate 800 years of Cambridge University.

It's interesting how much these sites have to be managed (mainly protection against rabbits) and the intimate knowledge people have about the smallest clump of trees when the best those of us at FFI can hope to have is a tenuous grasp over how many countries we're working in. I'm joking of course...ish.

Speculation is rife about what this piece of topiary in the gardens of Madingley Hall is supposed to represent. A pig's nose? Your guess is as good as mine.

Fact of the night is that jackdaws have brains the same size as chimpanzees and often outperform them on intelligence tests. Who knew!?
