Nino Ricardo

In Seville, we stayed for a week in la Casa del Maestro, the former home of flamenco guitarist Nino Ricardo (1904-72). A series of artworks based on his compositions decorate la Casa.

Ricardo was a leading figure of one of the significant periods in the development and popularity of flamenco and the role of the guitar therein. Those, such as Paco de Lucia, who took, and continued to take flamenco forward, cite Ricardo as a major influence and his recordings are still available on CD or from iTunes.

Here is a filmclip of him playing a Soleares. It looks like it may have been shot in a club, so excuse the lighting. On the YouTube page, there are some touching comments from Ricardo's great-grandchild.
