Cooking Apples

It's a pity the blinds on theses windows need to stay shut all the time, there's a lot going on out there to take your mind off the daily humdrum. It was like flicking through TV channels this morning as the view changed from sunshine to grey then to pouring rain and then back again within minutes.

Part of the reason it's best they stay shut is because the sun beats in through the glass here for a good part of the day and this makes it near impossible to see anything at all on the computer screens. As I spent most of today in here trying to filter out what's going with us to the new campus and what's going to be skipped, I also discovered another reason to keep the room shaded. The sun cooks Apples*. After a couple of hours enjoying the sunshine here this became very apparent as a strong smell of hot plastic began wafting around my nostrils. Blinds were closed and windows - not these ones; they've been sealed for years with silicon to keep out the worst of the winter winds - were opened before the smoke detectors detected anything.

Only a few hours of teaching left in here before the blinds are shut for good so though it worth taking a few photos to document the old place. Here's a wider version

*In the interests of parity, Windows based PCs cook equally as well.
