Knitting versus Mathematics...

I came upon a clash of mathematics and knitting this morning. Well more of a melding that I'd never noticed before.

When I do alternate knit and purl rows, I prefer (being a learner) to have it that I always start the rows in the same way. For example, start with two knit stitches then keep alternating every two stitches to hopefully end the row on two purl stitches so that the new row always starts the same way avoiding me having to work out or remember which way to start.

If you take the number of stitches in the row and divide it by the number you are alternating, if the resultant is an even number, you can get away just starting each row the same way.

Notes on the day's activities...
This shot was actually taken only halfway through the day and posted not too far after but we had a great fun filled day. Swimming in morning followed by the wee 5 minutes you see above. Home for lunch then off to our favourite secret beach where the tide was so far out, you could walk under the marooned boats. We found part of a small quadrapedal skeleton a pretty big 10 foot rusted chain. You don't come across one of them every day so it was bagged a blipbanked. Makes a wonderful sound when dropping it onto rock. We then headed back to get Mrs TFP and headed out on bikes to get a video for later. A most successful day.
