Pipevine Swallowtail Caterpillar

We spent a couple hours learning about the Butterfly Project, a local endeavor to create awareness and habitat for the pipevine swallowtail butterfly. Gardeners are being encouraged to plant Aristolochia, the host plant for this species of insect. Project managers are raising hundreds of caterpillars in a protected environment. This particular creature was very active, meaning it's getting ready to make a chrysalis--the final stage before emerging as a butterfly.
