Thank Goodness for the iPod Touch

We were headed home today after a very busy trip. The flight left on time, but 1 hour in to the 5 hour flight, the captain announced that there was a mechanical problem and we had to turn back to Phoenix. The flight attendant said that they would likely get another plane for us and we would be back in the air in a few hours.

Instead, the moment we landed, there was announcement that this flight was cancelled and we were to report to the customer service desk to be booked on an alternate flight. But we were at the very back of the plane, which of course meant, we were at the very back of the line to get rebooked. After waiting in the line for about an hour and a half, a guy driving the electric cart that ferries people who cannot walk long distances, pulled up and in broken English said, "Come with me - no lines." So the six of us at the end of the line piled in and he took us to an empty customer service desk in another terminal. They found us another flight that would get us home by Midnight at a different airport. But at least I would make it to work tomorrow.

We had 3 more hours to kill at the airport and then 5 hours on the plane. The iPod touch was a very welcome distraction for Bob (and James). I don't want to think about how much time he spent playing Angry Birds.....
