Earth - the classical elements continued

Earth, air, fire and water - the classical elements. Yesterday - a different take on fire. Today a different take on Earth.

Telluric currents are very weak electrical currents that move through the earth near the surface. You can make an Earth battery by using a pair of electrodes made of two dissimilar metals, such as iron and copper, which are buried in the soil or immersed in the sea. Earth batteries act as water activated batteries and if the plates are sufficiently far apart, they can tap telluric currents.

This is not an Earth battery obviously. It IS the battery from my nice new Canon EOS550D. Last night the camera was showing no battery. Easy - pop it into the handy charger and went to bed. This morning, reload it into the camera and first thing went to blip the tree that came down on the Links. (That was going to be "air" in the Classical elements four day series.)
Parked the car, jumped out, switched on the camera - still no battery!

So now back home and the battery back into the charger - maybe there was a one-off problem with the charge?

Also my Blackberry battery has died - switched to the HTC and the battery seems to be draining very fast!

Am in surrounded by a malign magnetic force........
