Paperdoll Debris

I bet you look good on the dance floor.

The primary schools in the area local to Mahatalaky, and Mahatalaky CEG (the high school Azafady is building classrooms for), had a gala day, with a dance competition and invited the pioneers.

The morning opened with a speech from the mayor, who thanked Azafady and us volunteers for our hard work on the school. He went on to tell the assembled locals that when the school is finished, he wants there to be adult literacy classes in the evening to enable everyone to participate in elections both local and national.

I'm really not sure what was meant to be happening next, but we were invited to sit up on the village halls porch with various dignitaries, and then nothing very much seemed to happen, though someone did pump some Malagasy pop music through the speakers. After a while a horde of the gathered school kids started getting down - in the rain. It was great to see, and I've got some great shots. This one though really caught me: two girls standing on a box near the dancing, attempting to keep off the rain with a folded lamba (sarong).

After lunch (which we had back at camp) they had the gala (more great photo opportunities - but as before, it is so hard to catch the way the girls move in a still photo.

Confession: I was listening to The Killers when I uploaded this, so the title was a given.
