More Trolley Action

Check out the previous few blips for background on the renovation works.

The lintel is in place and the brickwork nearly all repaired using proper lime mortar to match the original - and because the old Stonehouse Brickworks bricks need to breathe properly (apparently).

So we used Robin and his friends to help with the heavy move of the big doors to go into the hole. We've measured carefully and think everything is going to fit nice and snug.

We had to move the door unit (weight 180kg + support woodwork) from the front of the house where it had been delivered in a huge truck that couldn't fit down this road (Horn Road) where we wanted it delivered. So mounted on the trolley and with lots of pulling and shoving and balancing so it didn't tip over in the wind, we wheeled it down Bisley Road, round the corner and along Horns Road (shown here) then up the garden path to the back of the house. A route of about 400 metres to move it no more than 15 metres of actual distance.

Friends have had fun over the past couple of week suggesting silly ways to move it, including cranes and helicopters to get it over the house. But we did it with the brute strength of five pimply youths and one experienced hand directing them.

I'm satisfied and relieved it's done - this was the job that most worried me - it would have been very expensive if we'd dropped it.

Lets hope getting it into the hole goes smoothly tomorrow.

blip shot in a hurry on my phone so quality a bit iffy but a famous occasion in our family folklore well worth catching.
