I noticed this above a doorway on the south-west corner of St Andrews Square in central Edinburgh.

A lot of the former office space in this part of town is vacant just now - there are plans for redevelopment but the recent financial crisis seems to have put those on hold. At least for the time being.

I did read somewhere that one of world's leading 5 star hotel chains had been having a wee look around for a potential new site here.

It's an interesting carving none the less. I'm just not sure what used to occupy the building.

I'd like to think it's MI5 but I don't think Spooks were ever there...
