Life on the KY TN border

Fort Donelson Tennessee

We took a ride out here today, for Memorial Day. This is a Civil War Battlefield/Cemetery and a small museum.

This battle was responsible for a lot of the recognition that led to General Grant commanding the Union Forces. He insisted that the only terms be unconditional surrender, This pleased President Lincoln.

There was a lot to see here and I took a lot of pictures. It was hard to choose one for my blip, but this one finally seemed the best.

When we toured the Cemetery, I learned that in the Union section, there were more that 600 soldiers buried. More than 500 of them died without anyone knowing who they were. They have blank headstones.

All in all a very emotional experience.
