Danksound's Musing

Old and New in Victoria, Westminster

The Albert in Victoria Street was built in 1864 on the site of a pub called The Bluecoat Boy. It was named in honour of Queen Victoria's husband, the Prince Consort. The pub survived the blitz and the 1960's redevelopment and stands proudly amongst modern skyscrapers as shown in the photograph. Across the road and down Caxton Street is the Bluecoat Hospital School which I believe is now a school for girls not boys! There is a watercolour of the school in the V&A dated 1943 by Dimond (artist).
