Doing Things Differently

For Those That Can't Return

This is our fifth visit to St Abbs. It is so beautiful and peaceful here in the Borders region of Scotland. The wildlife is abundant and the scenery just stunning. More of that as the week progresses.

One of our little rituals on the first evening of any week we stay here is to walk from the cottage to the quayside. This blip shows a bronze by Jill Watson, one of a series sited in fishing villages along this coast, to remember the widows and children left behind by the 189 fishermen who lost their lives in the "East Coast Fishing Disaster" of 14 October 1881.

As the sun goes down, it brings the figures to life and makes the sad story a little more real.
