A love that lasts a lifetime

Day 160

Horses have always been a major part of Mummy Mac's life. It started with borrowing the beach ponies from Monifieth Beach for the winter. Then there was Flash, her first own loved pony, who was forever taking off with her and getting into mischief. But was a master at pony club games. I think until about the age of 13, Mummy Mac thought she was a cowboy.
And then there was Mayday, the 14.2 who had an awful head carriage, but was a cross country jumping machine.

And then came my ponies, Tommy the 27 year old hero who had an enormous heart and Annie who has a personality and a half (and has the best head carriage). I think Mummy Mac loves both of these two just as much (and perhaps more than) her own pony club super stars!

One of the reasons for holidaying in Wales was to visit Annie, who now lives with friends, in a Conemara herd.

We went to the Welsh Woodfest today, and this massive chap was one of the horses employed to pull felled trees during logging. These horses are not just kept as a historic reminder of the work once done by our equine friends, like the pit ponies or the plough horses, but are still used. Using horses is far better for the environment, and causes less damage to the ground and the the roots of trees.
