Claire and Gillian

Taking part in The Dublin Women's Mini Marathon. It is the biggest all women's event of its kind in the world. Charities are the big winners. In 2010 it is estimated that almost Euro 14m was raised by the participants bringing the total since the race started in 1983 close to Euro 137m. All charities benefit. The women decide themselves who they will support and many local causes gain vital revenue from the event. It is now the biggest single day charity event in the country.

A fascinating thing about the race is that while many of the well known charities are represented there are many other small charities that no one hears about. One of them is The Fragile X Society. We were talking to one of the runners whose daughter has what is known as Fragile X Syndrome.

About Fragile X
