First Day of Summer

The first day of summer.....for our family. Preschool is out for the summer and our structured days will now have that summer feel to them. So we decided to celebrate this gorgeous day with a family bike ride.

We loaded up our bikes and headed downtown. There is a nice little boardwalk that hosts a number of bikers, runners, walkers and strollers. But this time our son wanted to be on HIS bike instead of the trail bike that connects to my husband's bike. And he did such a great job. The boardwalk is safe from cars but requires careful attention of pedestrians. He rode slowly and followed his Daddy while his sister and I rode behind him. We stopped at the water fountains and several kids were already running through the water. The sun was warm and the warm breeze felt wonderful. We grabbed a little lunch and sat outside to eat. And took some photos for the album that will always be some of our favorite.

This evening we went to a BBQ. All of my husband's college roomates as well as their own little families and their parents. Three generations of families who all grew up together. And I adore each of the wives as well. The group feels so much more like extended family. We took a huge group photo and when looking at the photo, it is obvious how much love is shared. This is a family group that will continue to play a huge roll in our lives. Watching all of the kids play together was a powerful experience for the Grandparents because it just seemed like yesterday to them that their own kids were playing together in the same backyard. Friends and family. There is nothing in life that is more important. We are blessed to be surrounded by so much love in our lives.
